The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 20 film that are in the running for the Best Visual Effects Oscar at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards. The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the preliminary shortlist which has a maximum of 20 films which must then later be narrowed down to 10 before the final list of nominees are announced. The list of 20 films that made the first cut are:
