In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions, supervising director Dave Filoni talks about finally exploring the mystery of Sifo-Dyas and new insights into the Sith.
Sifo-Dyas was first mentioned in Attack of the Clones as the Jedi who ordered the clone army. His story remained untold, however, until The Lost Missions. Did George Lucas know his backstory while making Episode II? “I don’t know,” Filoni says. “As a storyteller myself, I can tell you that you evolve the story so much as you create other parts of the story. I think that it was something that he wanted to lock down more before he left.” Filoni also notes that this arc reveals that Dooku and Maul must have been Sidious’ apprentice at the same time – bending the Rule of Two, in a sense. In order to put the war in motion, Dooku had to have been working for Sidious during the time of The Phantom Menace, while Maul was active. Filoni says he called the Story Group’s Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo, and may have called Sam Witwer (the voice of Darth Maul) – but doesn’t have enough time for super-fan Witwer’s obscure factoids.
