In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions, supervising director Dave Filoni and voice actor Tom Kane discuss creating Yoda’s dark side spectre.
On a journey of self discovery, Yoda travels to the mysterious Force planet in the Lost Missions episode, “Destiny.” He encounters Force priestesses, who put him through numerous trials, including a confrontation with a dark side version of himself. Filoni recounts the recording session with Kane: “I said, ‘I need you to play Evil Yoda. I tried to describe him as this young, corrupt, gollumy, gremlin kind of thing.” The character’s visuals, including leeching smoke, fell to visual effects supervisor Joel Aron, who enjoyed bringing that image to life. The dark Yoda makes sense to Kane, who adds, “As we get more into Force mythology, there’s got to be an evil version of everything.”
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.
